Are you prepared for 2023 code changes?

Hi ACE professional,

At our Burnham Denver office, we've been tracking the implementation of the newly implemented building codes around the region.

Pike's Peak 2023 Regional Building Code

There was no grace period built in for these changes, so any plans submitted after 11:59 PM on June 29th have needed to meet the new code.

Now that the code is fully implemented, we wanted to include a few helpful links for you and your team:

  1. 2023 Regional Building Code
  2. Significant Changes Handout

Burnham can help steer your project through these changes.

Energize Denver

Denver's Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency efforts has established the "Energize Denver" performance requirements for existing buildings larger than 25,000 square feet. The requirements aim to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by outlining guidelines for benchmarking, reporting, and improving building energy performance.

According to the contractor training requirements provided by the city, the 2030 energy targets they've identified include:

  • Uses Site Energy Use Intensity, or EUI, as a measure of your building’s total
energy usage (kBtu divided by square footage)
  • Targets set at 85/15th percentile for all covered buildings in Denver
  • Mixed-use buildings will have a blended target based on weighted % of 3 largest building types

Burnham can help you navigate these targets and the interim benchmarks.

Other Denver code changes

Effective May 1, with no grace period given, there were also changes to the 2022 Denver Building and Fire Code (including changes to IBC Section 1107) and new requirements from the Denver Green Code.

If you're still adjusting to the changes or facing challenges with approvals, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We have the expertise to guide you through and help you regain your momentum.
