Summer cruisin' in Chicago

The Burnham HQ team enjoyed a Chicago joyride to celebrate the summer season

IMG_2541

"All work and no play makes Burnham employees dull." That's what Jack Nicholson said, right?

In celebration of summer, the Burnham HQ team was able to board a boat on the Chicago River and appreciate the beauty of the Chicago skyline.

We are proud to be based in a city with such a magnificent history of architectural innovation. We have even been lucky enough to be part of some of itβ€” including the execution of the Vista Tower from the ground up.

Great fun (and a few drinks) were had by all. Cheers to Summer '23.

Are you prepared for 2023 code changes?

CO is a hotbed for code changes in '23. They're probably headed your way, too.

Denver_skyline_sunrise_and_mountains

At our Burnham Denver office, we've been tracking the implementation of the newly implemented building codes around the region.

One such change: Effective May 1, with no grace period given, there were changes to the 2022 Denver Building and Fire Code (including changes to IBC Section 1107) and new requirements from the Denver Green Code.

Our regional teams across the country are heavily involved and deep in new construction projects and dealing with these types of changes on a daily basis. If you are looking for the right partner for your new building, we are ready to get it done for you.

Got It Done: U.S. Open edition

Burnham assisted with the completion of the NYC Wilson flagship store

Joe & the Juice social (1)
With the start of the U.S. Open next week, we thought it was a great time to make a racquet about the Wilson Flagship store in New York City.

For the project, which was completed in 2022, Burnham consulted with the design team, Bergmeyer Associates Inc. (with Store Pictures) & Fiskaa Engineering. We first assisted with developing a filing strategy for filing this project.

Because the project fell within the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, we first had to secure approval from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. Once we secured the Landmark Commissions approval and permit, Burnham filed the project with the NYC Department of Buildings and secured approvals and permits for General Construction, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Sprinkler systems upgrades to the property.

Speaking of: Do you need an FDNY project authorization letter? In 2021, new processes went into effect where the FDNY now requires official authorization for any project needing requests for Auxiliary Radio Communication Systems and Fire Alarm Applications. Enforcement of this new requirement went into full swing at the end of 2022.

Our NYC team is tracking the evolution of these new requirements and we've added it to our basic services for every project.

We're here to serve you. 🎾

Mike Finocchario – Junior at University of Arkansas, Finance

Michael Finocchiaro
We're not sure what he ate every morning, but he had a lot of energy. He picked up nearly 100 permits across the street at City Hall, kept our new CRM database data on contact and companies clean, reviewing almost 30k records.
His blog about A.I. and the Construction Industry was informative and he's going to school for finance with an interest in real estate and development which brought him to Burnham.
His unexpected takeaway: "How much time and work goes into getting a building up to code. I have seen companies neglect this process and it costs so much more to address at the end than integrate at the beginning.”

Best of luck Mike!
