What is the ACE Mentor Program?
ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) is a free, nationwide after-school mentoring program that pairs high school students with industry professionals — architects, engineers, contractors - who guide them through hands-on, team-based design and construction projects to explore careers in the field.
Is the ACE Mentor Program free for students to join?
Yes, it's free for participating high school students, funded through volunteer mentor time and firm/corporate sponsorships like Burnham Nationwide's support of the program.
Which high school students are eligible to participate in ACE?
Any high school student with curiosity about a design or construction career can typically join through a local ACE affiliate - there's no required prior coursework or experience, and many affiliates specifically prioritize outreach to students of color, women, and students from low-income backgrounds who are underrepresented in the industry.
What do students actually do in the ACE Mentor Program?
Students work in teams led by industry mentors on realistic building design and construction challenges - similar to what professionals face day to day — often including site visits, presentations, and exposure to architecture, engineering, and construction-management disciplines side by side.
How can a firm or professional get involved as an ACE mentor or sponsor?
Firms can become sponsors (as Burnham Nationwide has done) or individual professionals can volunteer as mentors through their local ACE affiliate — there are dozens of affiliates across the U.S. organized by city or region, each with its own coordinator and team structure.
